Starting Meditation

How to start practicing meditation? Firstly you need to sit in comfortable position cross legged, in hero pose or on the chair if your body is too stiff. It is important to keep your spine in upright position. If you feel that you have the avalanche of thoughts in your head try to do some Pranayama (breathing exercisers) and it will help you to bring one pointed focus to your mind. Just concentrate on your breath and on the air in your nose. Pranayama exercisers with the calming effects and the breath retention will also help you to put the mind into the quieter state. (Some days Pranayama will be the only thing you will be able to achieve and this will be still good enough). Then abandon the pranayama and concentrate on the breath without any force applied to it just observe the flow and you will go deeper and deeper into the state.
You can use guided meditation at the beginning of your meditation journey but later on when you become better and better at it, is will be good to remove this attachment and concentrate on the subtle sensations within the body and mind. This will enable you to go further into the state. Then you will learn how to be in the observer mode. Just noticing the sensation in your mind: thoughts, feelings and observing them from the distance. The breaks between thoughts become longer and longer and you will feel and notice the space. You will start feeling this wonderful state of nothingness which may even overwhelm you at the beginning but it will bring you closer to your soul. The real journey will start… You will learn a lot about yourself through this process. You will start noticing the patterns of your feelings and behavior and the reasons behind it. It will really help you to grow.
I swear you can learn it. You need to practice and practice and you will be better and better at it. It is like with everything. One of the first things you need to do is to abandon the idea that you will be able to understand it intellectually. The meditation does not belong there. I cannot be explained it in this way, you have to experience it to learn it.
